Barcelona
Jose Pinto – 5
Pinto was the busier of the two goalkeepers. He made some decent saves but couldn’t do anything about the goals he conceded.
Dani Alves – 5
Having been given the important role of shutting down Ronaldo, Alves made some crucial challenges but ultimately his efforts were in vain as CR7 bagged a brace. He was okay going forward but that wasn’t his main priority.
Gerard Pique – 4
Gave away a clumsy penalty which proved to be the start of the end of Barca’s Copa del Rey campaign. Picked up an early booking and spent the rest of the night walking on egg shells.
Carlos Puyol – 4
The iconic centre-back’s age began to show as he was constantly beaten for pace by Di Maria.
Jordi Alba – 6
Alba scored Barca’s only goal of the match but put in a patchy performance with only a few bright flashes.
Sergio Busquets – 5
Failed to really get into the game but had some decent link-up play with Alves.
Xavi – 3
A rare bad performance from the influential midfielder saw him completely marked out of the game. Anonymous.
Cesc Fabregas – 3
Should’ve been booked for a blatant dive which was as poor as his performance.
Pedro – 5
Started the game bright but faded as it went on.
Lionel Messi – 4
Came close with a free kick but was kept quiet by Real’s solid defence.
Andreas Iniesta – 5
Played a fantastic ball for Alba’s goal but this was the only sign of the brilliance of Iniesta on the night.
Subs – David Villa 5, Cristian Tello 4, Thiago Alcantara 4
Real Madrid
Diego Lopez – 7
Largely untroubled throughout but remained reliable and made some good stops.
Alvaro Arbeloa – 6
A solid performance but nothing special.
Raphael Varane – 9
Showed why he’s regarded as such a prospect. The 19 year old scored with a thundering header and was a defensive rock.
Sergio Ramos – 8
Kept control of the game with some assured passes and well-timed tackles.
Fabio Coentrao – 6
Struggled early on but grew into the game.
Sami Khedira – 6
Helped protect the defence and managed to get forward, but this wasn’t a stand-out performance.
Xavi Alonso – 8
Made a superb tackle on Messi in the area and his pin-point passes were a constant threat to Barca.
Angel Di Maria – 9
Kept Puyol on the rocks for the entire game with his pace and energy. He always looked dangerous.
Mesut Ozil – 5
Struggled to get into the match and couldn’t take advantage of Barca’s short comings on the night.
Gonzalo Higuain – 7
Helped his side with his involvement in quick counter-attacks; an important cog in the Madrid machine.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 10 (MoM)
Another scintillating performance from Madrid’s talisman. Won the penalty, scored the penalty, scored with a rebound. His pace and power set him apart from everyone else on the pitch.
Subs – Jose Callejon 5, Pepe 6, Michael Essien 5.
