Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone will sign a new contract extension at the Vicente Calderon in the next few days.

The former Argentina international joined the La Liga outfit in December 2011, guiding the club to the Europa League title in May 2012 followed by  UEFA Super Cup success over Chelsea at the start of the 2012/2013 campaign.

Atletico currently sit 2nd in La Liga ahead of city rivals and current champions Real Madrid, but despite being knocked out of the Europa League by Rubin Kazan, the club will face their Madrid counterparts in the Copa del Rey Final.

Simeone’s contract is set to expire in the summer and with his former club Inter Milan reportedly linked with a move to make him their next manager, Atletico have insisted they want to keep the Argentinian for the long-term.

A new contract has been in the pipeline for months and according to the Spanish media, Simeone’s agent and sister, Natalia Simeone has flown in to Madrid to finalise a deal which will see her brother pen a new four-year contract at the Calderon.

It is also believed the deal will include fresh contracts for assistant manager German Burgos, and coaches Pablo Vercellone and German Ortega.
