Rayo Vallecano sporting director Felipe Miñambres has dismissed rumours that hot prospect Leo Baptistao will be joining Atlético Madrid this month.
The two clubs are believed to have agreed a deal in principle for the Brazilian for a fee in the region of 4 million euros. However, it has not been confirmed when the youngster will be joining up with Atlético. Previous reports suggested it would be a move in the summer but Baptistao was spotted at the Vicente Calderon last week to watch Atlético bringing forth the idea that he could move as early as this month.
Yet, Miñambres has denied any speculation that the 20-year-old will be leaving Rayo in January by claiming, “Leo Baptistão was only in the Calderón cause he was invited by his friend Diego Costa”
Baptistao came through the youth ranks at Estadio Teresa Rivero, and he scored 4 goals in 17 appearances for club’s B side.
This season he has exploded onto the biggest stage, netting 6 times in 17 La Liga matches, attracting a lot of attention in the process from clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool.
Even though he has a buyout clause of around 8 million euros in his contract, Rayo may settle for a smaller fee along with one or two highly rated youngsters from the Atleti squad.
